Liver cancer
Liver cancer
Liver cancer is the sixth most common cancer and the third cause of cancer related death and accounts for 7% of all cancers. HCC represents more than 90% of primary liver cancers.
Among HCC treatment options, RFA has been accepted as an effective nonsurgical curative treatment modality for early-stage HCC tumors (solitary tumors, 5 cm in diameter or fewer than 3 nodules, 3 cm in diameter.
Despite progressive improvements in the efficacy of RFA, the survival of patients with HCC who undergo RFA remains disappointing, mainly due to frequent intrahepatic recurrence of HCC after RFA.
Several recent longitudinal studies proposed that TE could accurately predict HCC development in patients with chronic hepatitis B and C and HCC recurrence after curative resection based on the significant correlation between the risk of HCC development and the degree of liver fibrosis.
